When people prey on tragedy . . .
I'm sure everyone has listened to tireless news coverage today regarding the Amanda Berry saga. It is a wonderful turn that she was still alive and was able to escape.
While this is a terrific outcome to an otherwise tragic story, there has been another article popping up all day in relation to this. Apparently, back in 2004, Amanda Berry's mother, Louwana Miller, was brought on to the Montel Williams Show where world famous psychic Sylvia Browne told her:
She’s not alive, honey, Your daughter’s not the kind who wouldn’t call.
I cannot be more serious when I say that a psychic is NOT A REAL THING! There is no such thing as psychic capabilities or powers. They are people that are actors and are good at gathering information, making logical assumptions and using emotional weak spots to exploit you. They are sick individuals who prey on those seeking comfort or resolution or ANYTHING from people they have lost or tragedies they have experienced. In this case, Sylvia Browne took a stab that many would logically think. Amanda Berry had already been missing for 19 months, almost safe to assume that the worst had already happened. Even I may have stated that she was probably dead, but HERE'S THE FUCKING DIFFERENCE, I would have most likely used the word "probably" or even said "we can't be certain" or no claims at all, and I am not one who is claiming authority as a Psychic. When these nutbags claim this spiritual authority, people listen to them as though this shit actually exists AND these talk shows exploit these things for ratings. It is such a sad departure from reality to see that this girls mother was so grossly exploited by a fraud and had since died before her daughter turned up alive.
Side note: the dispatcher on the 911 call needs to get a new job, the way they handled that conversation was awful!!
