The Grand Ellipses

I listen patiently when I am waiting for reality to respond. I act impulsively when I have no idea what's going on . . .

"The Grand Ellipses … “? I love that moment when i’m thinking about something, or listening to something and i have that … moment. It’s that pause before you have your realization of clarity. So, i thought that would be a good name for this, to refer to that grand moment when we let our mind settle, let the questions and turbulence stir a bit and allow free thought to reign.

Natural Disaster

i pull in the parking lot of the hospital,
the sun blinding
i just finished a red bull
and was listening to a fine rant by Hitchens . . .
the place seemed pretty quiet
and wasn't depressing,
though i was there on business
not on death.
the week was riddled with
thunderstorms and floods
and all sorts of beautiful fucking disaster
(at least for our area,
the country wasn't so fortunate further south)
and people were caring to only
their local disaster.
i found my guy
with the broken english,
not that that plays in to anything he says,
and he was fucked up.

sometimes what we experience
is so goddamn important
that we think the entirety of existence
is part of our immediate struggle

he starts moving his fucking mouth
like he was that micro machine guy
from my youth,
except with broken english,
talking about this storm
and how the lower dock flooded
and some of the road was fucked up
and fish lay there squirming
when the water came down.

"Mark, why would GOD do this?!
I have water by knees
and life is at risk.
Then, i get home and
my wife has news on and i see
the gays can get marry now.
THAT is why god do this, Mark!
He is mad!"

he buys from me,
so honesty was not best . . .
i could show disapproval through
silent response and boring nods,
but words would have been a break
in language and respect for what we are.

people say that
god is love
god is peace
god is all that is good.

i read the scripture
and the lecturers long wind,
i hear the peace babble
and the hate in the word.

love is greater than god,
peace is more loving than god,
good is more peaceful
than that which any god can do.
